Blazers junior high boys wins the championship


The Blazers junior high boys basketball team won the championship of the Fannett-Metal Middle School Tournament over the weekend.

In their first game, the Blazers (14-5) defeated Fannett-Metal 57-37, pulling away after leading 32-25 at halftime. Caleb Eckert led the Blazers with 27 points. Blaine Minnier added 14 points and Ryan Winters scored 12.

In the championship game, the Blazers piled up a 25-6 halftime lead en route to a 46-13 victory over McConnellsburg. Eckert again led the scoring with 17 points, followed by Minnier with 12 and Winters with 11.

Other contributors to the championship were seventh-graders Jack Gabler and Josh Rowe and sixth-graders Bennett Carter, Aaron Minnier, Gavin MacDonald, Seth Bumbaugh and Logan Black. Coaching the Blazers are head coach Jeremy Smith and assistants Tom Coccagna and Mark Eckert.

The Blazers are the No. 2 seed entering the Mason Dixon Christian Conference tournament with a home game Thursday against Shenandoah Valley.
